Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where are you located?
A: Illinois Heart & Lung Associates has a full time office located near the Bromenn Healthcare Campus and in Pontiac. We also have numerous satellite clinics, on specific days of the week, in surrounding communities. Please see our Offices and Clinics page for details.

Q: What are your office hours?
A: The full time offices in Normal and Pontiac are open from 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. We are closed on nationally recognized holidays. The regional clinics' hours vary by location. Please see the Offices and Clinics page for details. There is a 24-hour answering service, including evenings and holidays, to take phone messages and pass them on to the appropriate people. You will reach our answering service by calling the same phone number as during office hours. If you are having any type of medical emergency, please call 911.

Q: How long does it take for test results?
A: Most results for tests performed in our office are available within a few days. Some tests may take longer. Tests that are performed outside of our office, such as x-rays or lab work, are usually available in about 5 days. For those procedures, we rely on the facility performing the test to process the results and return them to us. To obtain your results, you may be asked to make a follow-up appointment with your doctor. This will allow your doctor to make any necessary recommendations to you at that time. For some lab work, you may receive a phone call from one of our office nurses. Of course, you are always free to call to our office. However, some test results will not be discussed over the phone.

Q: Why can't the technologist tell me what the results are?
A: It is our policy that results of testing can only be discussed after they have been reviewed by one of our physicians. This assures that all factors are taken into account when it comes time to discuss them with you.

Q: Does my insurance pay for testing?
A: Each person's insurance plan is different, so it is difficult to say if your plan will cover a specific test. Most of the tests performed in our offices by our physicians are covered by a majority of plans, but the level of coverage varies from plan to plan. Please check with your health insurance carrier regarding coverage on specific tests.

Q: Was my insurance billed?
A: Yes. As a courtesy to our patients, we bill your primary and secondary insurance carriers on your behalf.

Q: Why am I getting statements in the mail?
A: We send out statements to all of our patients. These statements are updated regularly to show what charges are still owed on - even charges that your insurance carrier owes on.

Q: I have a co-pay on my insurance plan. Should I pay my co-pay at the time of service?
A: Yes. Your insurance carrier will not pay the co-pay, so it is your responsibility. It is our policy to collect the co-pay at the time of service.

Q: How do I reach the Billing Department?
A: You can call our Billing Department directly by calling 309-663-4327.

Q: How do I refill my medications?
A: When you have filled your last refill, please call our office during business hours. Our switchboard will take your information and forward it to the appropriate office personnel. Your prescription will be called into your pharmacy as soon as possible. Please do not wait until you are out of medication to contact us.
